I’ve been vegan for just over a year and in that time I found that there was a severe lack of recipes for vegan adaptations of the comfort food I love. I get pretty frustrated when I look up how to make something and it requires coconut oil, or dates, or some other dumb obscenely vegan ingredient. I’m no health vegan. And while there are some very vegan staples in my pantry (nutritional yeast, I’m looking at you), I try to use “normal” ingredients as much as I can.
I cook a lot for my friends and often people ask for my recipes. It wasn’t until recently that I actually started writing them down. I used to just sort of, feel out the measurements. In order to make things more replicable and veganism more accessible for my friends, I decided to make this blog to easily share my go-to recipes for vegan comfort foods.
In case you’re wondering, the name Salami Flashback comes from a night when all I wanted was salami, but my own ethical choices were stopping me from having it. I was quite upset at the time, (there is photographic evidence about me crying over how much I wanted salami). Now I am able to look back at this time and laugh, just like many of my friends did when it happened. Quite frankly, animal products are delicious. Being vegan can be tricky, but these recipes have helped me satisfy many of my cravings.
